A series of power interruptions are expected to take place in some portions of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) until May 28 to give way for maintenance activities.

In a statement, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said the power maintenance activities at Terminal 3 had already begun last April 2, allowing personnel to replace deteriorated medium voltage switchgear components across its eight different electrical substations.

The maintenance shutdowns would be sectoral and would affect the open and multilevel parking, substations in the South and North concourses, and the main substation of Terminal 3, MIAA noted.

They said the shutdowns would start at midnight when fewer flights are scheduled.

MIAA advised travelers to anticipate reduced air conditioning supply in certain areas of Terminal 3 as well as occasional malfunctions in its elevators and escalators.

Nonetheless, they assured that generator sets would be on standby to provide uninterrupted power for critical airport systems.

"The MIAA remains steadfast in completing these necessary and crucial upgrades while having to deal with inevitable power interruptions in the course of the project," the statement read.

In the same statement, MIAA General Manager Eric Ines sought the support of airport passengers as the agency conducts the maintenance activities.

"We apologize to all our airport stakeholders. Rest assured that the benefits of this electric systems upgrade will far outweigh the inconveniences it may bring in the course of its implementation. We seek for more patience and understanding from everyone," Ines said.
