A Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) has approved the transfer of alleged drug trafficker Jose Adrian ‘Jad’ Dera to a jail facility in Muntinlupa City from the National Bureau of Investigation's (NBI) detention cell in Ermita, Manila.

"Wherefore, for safety and security reasons and in Compliance with the Memorandum dated 3 July 2023 issued by the Office of the Court Administrator, the Motion to Transfer Detainee is hereby granted," Muntinlupa RTC Branch 204 stated in an order released on Tuesday.

The court directed the NBI and Chief of the Security Management Section (SMS) to transfer Dera to Muntinlupa City Jail Male Dormitory in Brgy. Tunasan, Muntinlupa City.

"The Chief of the SMS is further directed to report to this Court as to the date and time the above-named accused was actually transferred," Muntinlupa 204 said.

It also instructed the NBI, the Chief of SMS, or the jail warden of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to bring the high-profile inmate to the Senate hearing of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights on Wednesday, July 5.

The court noted that Dera must be escorted by security officials.

On the evening of June 20, NBI agents caught Dera, the co-accused in one of former Senator Leila de Lima's drug cases, after he escaped the NBI detention cell.

The high-profile inmate reportedly had the chance to go in and out of the NBI facility for four consecutive times, only to travel to places like Tagaytay, Makati, Zubic, and Calatagan, Batangas.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) earlier revealed that aside from his illegal excursion, Dera paid "hundreds of thousands" to obtain other special privileges such as food and special sleeping conditions while staying inside the detention facility.

He is facing charges of corrupting public officials under Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC).
