The Muntinlupa City government on Friday announced the scrapping of mandatory use of face shields outside and inside establishments except for hospitals and clinics.
"All persons found in the City of Muntinlupa shall no longer be required to wear a face shield outside of residence and in any public or private establishments, except in hospitals and clinics," the signed ordinance read which was enacted on November 9 but was released to the media on Friday.
"Due to the high percentage of vaccinated individuals and the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases, the Sangguniang Panglungsod deems it necessary to allow the non-use of face shields in public and private establishments with certain exceptions," it added.

In the said resolution, hospitals such as healthcare institutions are "built, staffed and equipped for the diagnosis of disease, for the treatment, both medical and surgical of the sick and the injured, and for their confinement."
Muntinlupa is the second city in the National Capital Region to scrap the controversial face shield policy, following Manila.
Malacañang earlier said Manila's new policy was "null and void," for going against the Inter-Agency Task Force's rule.
