Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) Assistant Secretary for Railways and officer-in-charge (OIC) Jorjette Aquino assured that the railway has enough capacity to accommodate passengers who may switch from the EDSA Bus Carousel due to ongoing bus repairs.

This was after the Department of Public Works and Highways National Capital Region announced emergency road repairs on EDSA Bus Carousel, from Balintawak to Buendia Avenue, starting from August 4 to August 9.

In a statement, Aquino mentioned that the MRT-3 underwent a comprehensive overhaul of 72 light rail vehicles (LRVs/bagon) in November 2022.

"Therefore, we have 24 train sets available and operational," said the assistant secretary.

"With 18 train sets running during peak hours, the MRT-3 has increased its ridership to 10 million monthly this year," she added.

Utilizing the available 24 train sets, the MRT-3 has the capability to deploy an additional two or three train sets when necessary, allowing it to comfortably cater to a ridership of 450,000 to 500,000.

To further optimize the passenger experience, the MRT-3 has also made considerable improvements in its train speeds.

Trains now run at an improved pace of 60 kilometers per hour, resulting in headway, or train intervals, of just four minutes.
