The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Wednesday that the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 or MRT-7 is set to begin limited operations by next year’s last quarter.
By then, the North Avenue Station until Quirino Station will be serviceable, Transport Secretary Jeremy Regino revealed during the House deliberations on DOTr’s budget.
“‘Yung San Jose Station ang best case scenario po natin is 2027 (The best case scenario for San Jose Station is by 2027),” he said. “We’ll extend to 2028 on a worst-case scenario.”
The MRT-7 runs for 22 kilometers and has 14 stations: Quezon North Avenue Joint Station, Quezon Memorial Circle, University Avenue, Tandang Sora, Don Antonio, Batasan, Manggahan, Doña Carmen, Regalado, Mindanao Avenue, Quirino, Sacred Heart, Tala, and lastly, San Jose del Monte.
Once it is fully operational, the MRT will lessen travel time from Quezon City to San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, to 35 minutes only. Moreover, an estimated 300,000 passengers are expected to have used the service before the end of its first year of operation.
