The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) is offering libreng sakay for all blind or visually impaired passengers in commemoration of White Cane Safety Day.
In a statement on Tuesday, MRT-3 said the free ride has started today and this will go on until Saturday, August 6.
""Nakikiisa po ang MRT-3 sa pagdiriwang ng buong bansa ng World Cane Safety Day. Patuloy nating bibigyang prayoridad ang kapakanan at mga karapatan ng ating visually impaired passengers lalo na sa sapat, mabilis, komportable, at maaasahang transportasyon," DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT-3 Officer-in-Charge Jorjette Aquino said.
Those who will be availing of the free rides will only have to present their valid person with a disability (PWD) to the security personnel of the MRT-3 station.
The companion of the visually impaired individual will also be treated with the libreng sakay during the aforementioned dates.
White Cane Safety Day is an annual celebration that seeks to raise public awareness of the plight of the blind, promoting recognition and acceptance of the “white cane” as a symbol of the need of the blind for specific assistance.
The celebration was declared in the country through Republic Act No. 6759 or an Act Declaring August One of each year as White Cane Safety Day in the Philippines and for other purposes.
