The Manila Police District belied rumors that cops will arrest devotees who will ride the carriage carrying the Image of the Black Nazarene during the annual Traslacion on Tuesday, January 9.
PCol. Arnold Ibay, chief of the Manila Police District, reiterated that National Capital Region Police Office Director PMGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. instructed cops to allow devotees to profess their faith.
While the police will not arrest the devotees, Ibay still discouraged them from trying to since the hijos will surround the carriage and prevent anyone from riding it.
Ibay explained that the organizers of the 2024 Traslacion decided on the measure due to complaints from other devotees who can no longer see the Image of the Black Nazarene due to the people at the top of the carriage.
"Nung araw kasi kapag meron gusto na sumampa, itutulak pa nila pataas iyon. Ngayon, hindi na itutulak iyan, at idi-discourage ng hijos natin na nakapaligid dito sa may karosa o andas," Ibay said on Friday, January 5, during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.
"Walang hulihan dito," he assured.
