MPD deploys 1,500 personnel for Binondo's Chinese New Year celebration

The Manila Police District (MPD) on Friday annoucned that it will be deploying at least 15,00 of its personnel to secure the celebration of the Chinese New Year in Binondo on February 9 and 10.

The Manila local government unit (LGU) earlier said it is expecting one million revelers to join the annual celebration.

Apart from the Chinese New Year, Binondo will also celebrate its 430th anniversary.

According to the MPD, the personnel will be deployed throughout Binondo and in some parts of Quiapo, Santa Cruz, San Nicolas, and Tondo.

The city government will likewise implement traffic rerouting in the area due to the parade.

The MPD advised tourists not to bring huge amounts of cash and expensive belongings when they go to Binondo to avoid being victims of pickpocket. They also reminded them to regularly check their belongings when shopping around the area.
