Tourists would no longer have to worry about the limitations on air travel services, as the newly signed agreement is in support of the improvement on tourism in both countries.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Monday, that air traffic rights between South Korea and the Philippines have been improved in hopes of attracting more tourists.
In the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), both countries agreed to increase the weekly capacity of seats to 30,000 when traveling in-between both countries.
In the past, the cap was set to 20,000 seats per week, unchanged since the last MOU signed in 2017.
Before the pandemic, South Korea was the Philippines’ main source of international visitors, with tourists reaching 1.4 million in 2023. Now that countries are beginning to recover, the Philippines is aiming to increase the sum of visitors by this year.
There are currently six carriers operating flights between countries.
