The motorcycle rider who was earlier reported dead after a road rage shooting incident in Brgy. San Jose, Antipolo City is apparently alive, although in critical condition.
The victim, identified by Antipolo Police Chief Pol. Lt. Col. Ryan Manongdo as alias “Peter,” 52, was shot in the head at close range by the armed suspect, alias “Ken,” 28, after a verbal turned physical confrontation at around 5 PM. Alias Peter is currently undergoing surgery, said Rizal Provincial Police Office Director Pol. Col. Felipe Maraggun in an exclusive interview on Dos Por Dos.
Maraggun also told RH 52 Edniel Parrosa that the fight was allegedly triggered by a tight squeeze in traffic, with those involved trying to get ahead of one another. The motorcycle rider caught in a tight spot with the suspect’s SUV had called his father—who was on another motorcycle—through a communications device, he said.
The police director reported eight bullet shells were collected from the scene, indicating eight rounds fired from a 9mm gun during the incident.
Alias Ken or Kenneth attempted to flee the scene of the crime in his black Fortuner, but was captured by border control doubling as an elections checkpoint before 6 PM.
“Pine-prepare na po ‘yung complaint natin na frustrated homicide, four counts … may violation of Republic Act 10591 ito’ yung … Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, at tsaka po ‘yung Omnibus Election Code dahil pa rin sa ongoing gun ban,” Maraggun said.
(We are preparing our complaints, including frustrated homicide, four counts, the violation of Republic Act 10591, which is the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, as well as the violation of the Omnibus Election Code due to the ongoing election gun ban.)
Maraggun commended the arresting officers of the Antipolo Component City Police Station for their swift response, leading to the shooter’s arrest.
Three others were also injured during the incident, two of whom have already been discharged as of Monday morning and the third transferred to the ward, signaling recovery, Maraggun disclosed.
