Motorcycles remain the leading cause of road crash injuries in the Philippines, accounting for 71% of all recorded cases, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
From December 21, 2025, to 5:00 a.m. on January 2, 2026, a total of 1,113 road crash incidents were recorded nationwide, an increase of 68 cases compared to the previous reporting period. This marks an 82% rise in cases compared to the same period in 2024.
Among separate incidents over the holiday period, five motorcycle riders were killed, while two pedestrians lost their lives. Of the seven total fatalities, five involved motorcycle riders.
In an earlier interview with DZRH’s flagship program Dos Por Dos, DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo emphasized that while public attention during the holidays often focuses on firework-related injuries, road crash incidents remain a major concern, especially during periods of increased travel and celebrations.
The DOH continues to urge motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads, particularly during peak holiday travel periods, emphasizing adherence to traffic safety measures and the use of protective gear.
