Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the stabbing of a police officer by his fellow policeman inside the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) headquarters at Camp Crame.
According to Police Major Helen Dela Cruz, public information chief of the investigating unit, investigators are considering whether they can still obtain crucial information from the victim, Police Executive Master Sergeant Eric Castro, who remains confined at the PNP General Hospital. Castro is scheduled to undergo surgery but is reported to be in stable condition.
The suspect, Police Senior Master Sergeant Michael Camillo, is currently under PNP custody. The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. in the kitchen of the Anti-Organized Crime Unit (AOCU) as officers were preparing for a preliminary investigation at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Witnesses said the officers were having breakfast when Castro, restricted AOCU personnel, entered the kitchen, followed shortly by Camillo. Both officers were under restricted custody, as they are facing charges related to the alleged theft of evidence linked to a 2024 POGO raid in Bataan.
Investigators noted a change in Camillo’s behavior about two hours before the incident. Camillo allegedly stabbed Castro with a kitchen knife as they were preparing to leave for the prosecutor’s office.
Both officers are among six AOCU personnel implicated in the disappearance of ₱13 million in POGO-related funds in 2024. One of the six has reportedly admitted that the money was divided among them, with Castro and Camillo allegedly receiving ₱2.3 million each. Despite the stabbing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño said the remaining four restricted police officers proceeded with their preliminary investigation as scheduled.
