More than 67,000 personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been fully vaccinated against the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).
PNP chief PGen. Guillermo Eleazar said on Wednesday, August 11, that a total of 67,498 personnel, around 30.47 percent of the whole national police force, have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
66,968 personnel or around 30.38 percent of the PNP have received their first shot of COVID-19 vaccine while 66,968 personnel, around 30.38 of the national police force, remain unvaccinated.
"Sa pagdating ng mga karagdagang mga bakuna sa bansa, umaasa po tayo na sa mga susunod na buwan ay fully vaccinated na po ang buong kapulisan," Eleazar said in a statement.
Meanwhile, PNP also announced that another police officer succumbed to the respiratory illness.
Eleazar identified the 88th COVID-19 fatality in the PNP as 48-year old Police Lieutenant Colonel from Occident Mindoro, and he tested positive for the disease last Saturday, August 7.
The PNP chief said that the police officer died due to the acute respiratory distress syndrome a day after he arrived at a hospital.
"I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of our police officer and assures them every assistance that they needed," Eleazar said.
Eleazar mentioned that the police officer received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on July 23.
The PNP has also recorded 114 new COVID-19 cases which raised the total number of infenctions up to 31,799, and the number of active cases to 1,812.
The total number of COVID-19 recoveries climbed up to 29,899 after 77 PNP personnel survived the disease.
