415,040 doses of the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) vaccine developed by United Kingdom-based pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca arrived on Monday, August 2, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
The latest batch of jabs is part of the 100 million vaccine doses committed by United Kingdom to developing countries, including the Philippines.
National Task Force Against COVID-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr., Department of Foreign Affairs Asec. Jaime Leda, and outgoing British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce welcomed the arrival of the vaccine doses.
"Today is such a powerful illustration of our two countries working together," Pruce told reporters.
"The United Kingdom has been able to donate these 415,040 vaccines and it will be wonderful to see in the upcoming days, weeks, the government of the Philippines deploy and administer these vaccinations, to get the injections to the people's arms," the ambassador added.
