Nearly 2,000 families in the regions of Ilocos and Cagayan Valey have been affected by Super Typhoon Goring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Sunday.

In its latest bulletin, NDRRMC said that Goring has impacted a total of 551 families or 1,968 individuals in the two regions.

Of the total, 213 families, or 832 individuals are taking shelter inside 24 evacuation centers, while 78 families or 265 individuals are staying with their friends and families outside the evacuation centers.

The agency said three families or 13 individuals were pre-emptively evacuated in the Ilocos region.

No casualties or missing individuals have been reported as of this posting.

NDRRMC also reported that the floods in five areas in the Ilocos region are being subsided while the floods in 11 areas are receding.

Six roads and two roads remain not passable in Ilocos. Meanwhile, motorists can not also pass by two roads and one bridge in Cagayan.

One house was totally damaged in the Ilocos region amidst the onslaught of Goring.

The estimated cost for the initial damage to infrastructure in Cagayan damage was P40,000.

Meawhile, in a separate statement, NDRRMC said red alert status has been raised in five regions in Luzon due the Super Typhoon Goring.

The regions are Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Mimaropa.

As of 11 AM, 20 areas in the country are placed in Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS).

PAGASA said the center of the eye of the super typhoon was last tracked 95 km east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, and is accelerating southsouthwestward at the speed of 10 kph.

Goring is packed with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.

The state weather bureau said Goring will remain in the super typhoon category until it makes landfall over the southern portion of Taiwan on Wednesday evening, August 30, or on Thursday early morning, August 31.
