by Kristan Carag03 March 2023

Police expects that more persons of interest in the death of John Matthew Salilig, a chemical engineering student of Adamson University, will surrender on Friday, March 3.

PCol. Virgilio Jopia, police chief of Biñan City, Laguna, revealed that two persons of interest already sent their surrender feelers.

Police currently have seven persons of interest in custody for their alleged involvement in the death of Salilig, who went missing after attending the initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity on February 18 in Laguna.

Authorities found the body of Salilig, which bore injuries allegedly from hazing, buried at an empty lot in Imus, Cavite.

Police filed criminal charges against six members of the Tau Gamm Phi on Thursday, March 2, before the Department of Justice.

Jopia said that one of the six fraternity members submitted his extrajudicial confession, and could become a state witness.

"Ito ay sasailalim sa proseso ng korte para sa ganoon titignan nila kung ito talaga ay pwedeng tanggapin as a witness," Jopia said during DZRH's Dos Por Dos.

"Officer siya ng kanilang chapter at meron personal knowledge talaga siya kung paano at kung saan namatay yung ating biktima," he added.
