Radio broadcaster and columnist Ramon 'Mon' Tulfo wants his brother Erwin Tulfo to resign as the Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) after the latter’s ad interim appointment confirmation has been bypassed twice.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Mon claimed that the members of the Commission on Appointment (CA) are merely serving their own “selfish interest” which is why Erwin’s confirmation had been rejected two times in a row.
He recalled that this also happened during the Duterte administration when long-time environmental advocate Gina Lopez was rejected as the Environment Secretary and was replaced with a non-environmentalist official.
“Nasira tuloy ang ating kalikasan. Pero walang pakialam ang mga miyembro ng CA dahil ang pinoprotektahan nila ay kanilang sariling kapakanan at hindi ang bayan,” he said.
Earlier, Senate President and CA chairman Juan Miguel ‘Migz’ Zubiri said the panel will bypass Tulfo's appointment as DSWD secretary due to the question on his citizenship and his four counts of libel conviction.
Zubiri said if President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. wanted Erwin to remain in his cabinet, he should re-appoint him.
But Mon said Marcos is “weak” for not finding ways to reinstate his brother.
“Tama si Digong [former president Rodrigo Duterte] sa kanyang sinabi noon na si Bongbong ay isang “weakling.” Do you want to continue working for a weakling president?” he added.
Furthermore, Mon claimed that some CA members just wanted to get back to their brother Senator Raffy Tulfo who has been exposing corrupt officials in the Senate recently.
“Ikaw, Erwin, ang pinaparusahan ng mga ugok dahil kay Raffy,” he said.
"Huwag mong sayangin ang oras sa pagsasagot sa mga stupid accusations about the US citizenship that you have already renounced at saka yung libel conviction," Mon added.
Erwin earlier said he is expecting President Marcos will reappoint him again.
