The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) announced on Tuesday, the first five official entries for the annual film festival's 50th edition this year.
The announcement was made during the Grand Launch of the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival at the capital of the countrty, City of Manila. The launch was made possible through the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in cooperation with the City government of Manila.
Lineup is as follows:
- "And the Breadwinner Is..."
- "Green Bones"
- "Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital"
- "Himala Isang Musikal"
- "The Kingdom"
The first entry for this year is a comedy film starring MMFF returnee Vice Ganda, with Eugene Domingo. The film is directed by Jun Robles Lana.
"Green Bones", starring Dennis Trillo and Sofia Pablo, is produced by GMA Pictures and directed by Zig Dulay. National Artist of the Philippines for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky lee joins the ensemble as one of the writers.
"Strange Frequencies: Haunted Hospital" is a horror film starring Enrique Gil, Jane de Leon, Alexa Miro, and MJ Lastimosa.
Meanwhile, from stage to big screen, singers Aicelle Santos and Bituin Escalante stars in the musical film "Himala Isang Musikal."
MMFF returnee Vic Sottor will be joined with Piolo Pascual in an action drama directed by Michael Tuviera. This will be Sotto's return after 5 years from being absent in the prestigous film festival.
The final batch that will complete the official list will be announced on October.
The MMFF 2023 holds the record for the highest-grossing edition of all time, having earned over P1B at the box office.
