The initial four official entries for the highly anticipated 49th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) were officially announced on Monday, July 10.

Here are the first four MMFF entries:

'A Mother and Son's Story'

In this Nuel Naval film penned by Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario, Alden Richards and Sharon Cuneta will join forces for the first time, delivering a compelling narrative.

'K(ampon)'

Beauty Gonzales and Derek Ramsay take the lead in the horror thriller "K(ampon)," directed by King Palisoc and written by Dodo Dayao.

'Penduko'

Matteo Guidicelli and Cristine Reyes headline this fantasy action flick, directed and written by Jason Paul Laxamana.

'Rewind'

Real-life sweethearts Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes reunite in the film "Rewind," a production of ABS-CBN Film Productions.

Directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar and written by Enrico Santos, it promises to be a captivating experience.

The selection of these four films was based on several criteria, including artistic excellence (40%), commercial appeal (40%), Filipino cultural sensibility (10%), and global appeal (10%).

To complete the festival's much-anticipated "magic eight", an additional four films will be chosen from the pool of finished movie submissions. The deadline for submitting these finished entries is September 29.

Mark your calendars! The 49th edition of the MMFF is set to enthrall audiences from December 2023 to January 2024, showcasing the best of Philippine cinema.
