About 1,494 erring motorists and riders were apprehended during the first four days of the exclusive motorcycle lane's dry run along Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Monday.
In a press release, MMDA acting Chairman Don Artes noted that there has been a decline in the number of apprehended vehicles.
He said the agency recorded 276 erring motorcycles and 61 four-wheel vehicles or a total of 337 vehicles on March 9, the first day of the 11-day dry run.
The following day, about 569 vehicles were flagged down — 201 were four-wheel vehicles and 368 were motorcycles.
At least 363 erring vehicles were apprehended on March 11 while 225 vehicles on March 12.
"We are hopeful that these numbers will continue to decline as we continue to guide our motorists for another week of test run for the exclusive motorcycle lane in the largest highway in the metropolis," Artes said.
He said MMDA is in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in regard to the conduct of the road repair slated to bein within the week.
The agency is also mulling the establishment of reflectors and solar street lamps on the road to avoid accidents, Artes added.
The exclusive motorcycle lane is set to be fully implemented on March 20.
Earlier, the MMDA said the implementation of the exlusive motorcyle lanes would reduce the number of fatal road crashes and would improve road traffic flow.
