The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has advised motorists to prepare for heavier traffic as several sections of EDSA and nearby roads will undergo partial and full closures due to construction activities for the MRT-7 project.
MMDA announced on January 30, 2026, that portions of North Avenue, West Avenue, and EDSA will be closed from February until May 29 for the installation of steel box girders. These closures will be in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. on scheduled dates.
However, traffic impact is expected to be more severe due to the 24/7 closure of two lanes of EDSA from Cubao to Balintawak from February 1 to May 8, and from Balintawak to Cubao from February 15 to May 8.
MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando S. Artes said the traffic impact will not be minimal, noting that the project will also affect the EDSA Carousel station in the area, as buses will be prioritized to exit from the innermost lane, mixing with private vehicles.
The affected stretch of EDSA has previously experienced severe congestion during the construction of the Common Station connecting MRT-3 and LRT-1. Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured the public that the MRT-7 construction remains on track, with partial operations targeted to begin in early 2027.
