The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday, Dec. 28, urged the local government units in Metro Manila to allot specific fireworks display zones in their localities for a safer environment during New Year’s Eve pyrotechnics events.
“Setting up a common fireworks display zone can prevent or lessen fireworks-related injuries. Open spaces or common areas can be designated as fireworks display zones,” MMDA chair Romando Artes said.
In a Metro Manila Council meeting, Artes cited MMDA Resolution 22-22 Series of 2022 in his directive, following the rise of casualties due to firecrackers during the holiday season.
As of this writing, the Department of Health recorded 96 fireworks-related injuries, with the National Capital Region logging the most number of cases.
