Traffic enforcers in Metro Manila will soon use body cameras to catch motorists who violate traffic rules and even enforcers to avoid bribe and corruption, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Thursday, July 6.

According to acting MMDA chairman Romando Artes, the footage from the body cameras will also serve as evidence for motorists who has complaints regarding their apprehension.

Artes said that the video and audio feed from the body cameras would be monitored in real time at the MMDA’s command center.

The MMDA Command Center is set to be opened next week.

Meanwhile, the MMDA will also develop its protocol for using body cameras by enforcers, including when they can cover the camera, such as while taking a bathroom break.

Artes assured that the cameras could film “high-resolution” videos.

“These are the same cameras used in the (United Kingdom) so I think if a more advanced country uses them, they would be much sturdier. There is a warranty so no need to worry,” he said in a mix of English and Filipino.

The agency purchased 120 body cameras for P60,000 each wherein it spent around P24 million.
