The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday announced that the Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or the expanded number coding scheme in Metro Manila is suspended on Monday, August 21.
In an advisory posted on Facebook, MMDA said the suspension is in commemoration of the death anniversary of former Opposition Senator Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino Jr.
"Ngayong long weekend, planuhin ang biyahe. Siguraduhing nasa maayos ang kondisyon ng sasakyan at kalagayan bago magmaneho," the agency said.
To recall, the number coding scheme only covers private motor vehicles, exempted are transport network vehicle service (TNVS) units, public utility vehicles (PUVs), commercial vehicles transporting essential goods, and utility vehicles like garbage trucks.
August 21 or also known as Ninoy Aquino Day is a national special non-working holiday across the country. This day is dedicated to Aquino who was a prominent opposition figure during his time.
This year marks the former lawmaker's 40th death anniversary.
