Officials stated that security and safety protocols have been established for the expected surge of motorists returning to Metro Manila following the Holy Week break.

Victor Nuñez, Director for Enforcement of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's (MMDA) Traffic Discipline Office, said that personnels are equipped for the influx of vehicles on roads and in terminals.

He also mentioned that assistance would be provided at bus terminals for passengers from different provinces.

"We’re actually expecting Sunday night and Monday morning ‘yung buhos ng mga motorista especially those coming from provinces, and also pag-alalay sa bus terminal for passengers coming from different provinces," Nuñez said.

Officials have placed authorities on stand-by at places where people gather during the Holy Week break. Moreover, approximately 78,000 policemen have been deployed nationwide to respond to any unforeseen incidents.

Meanwhile, the PNP spokesperson Jean Fajardo added that assistance desks would be present near churches to ensure that peace and order are maintained throughout the Holy Week.

"Hindi rin natin inaalis ‘yung mga police and assistance desks sa paligid ng simbahan kasi may mga activities na church-related to make sure na ma-maintain ‘yung peace and order sa duration ng buong Semana Santa," the spox said.

The government granted Filipinos an extended break after declaring April 10 a regular holiday to commemorate the Day of Valor, which is traditionally observed on April 9.
