Officials from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) met on Saturday to discuss the ongoing management and improvement of the Pasig River Ferry Service (PRFS), which serves as an alternative transportation option in Metro Manila.

Led by MMDA Deputy Chairman Usec. Frisco San Juan Jr. and Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Michael Encina, the two agencies reviewed plans for dredging the river at 12 ferry stations: Guadalupe, Pinagbuhatan, Kalawaan, San Joaquin, Maybunga, Escolta, Quinta, Lawton, Sta. Ana, Lambingan, Valenzuela, and Hulo.

Apart from the 12 ferry stations, the dredging of San Juan and San Francisco River was also tackled.

MMDA and PCG also eyes to repair damaged pontoons at various stations and to rehabilitate the PUP station in Sta.Mesa.

Furthermore, four new ferry boats are expected to be in service this year, and the agency also aims to add more ferry boats next year to increase passenger capacity and reduce travel time for the PRFS.

The MMDA prioritizes safety and cleanliness by conducting regular cleanup operations of the Pasig River to help prevent widespread flooding in Metro Manila.

The PCG manages the operation of the boats and ensures passenger safety, while the MMDA handles the administrative and clerical aspects of the ferry service.
