The Metro Manila Development Authority apprehended more than 300 motorists due to the unauthorized use of the EDSA busway during the first day of enforcing fines and penalties for the violators.
According to MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, two of their personnel have violated as well, riding their motorcycles while using the bus carousel lane.
In a report by RH 08 Christian Maño, more than 150 violators were already caught in the first hour of the implementation.
On Sunday, the MMDA chairman mentioned that the fines and penalties for the bus lane offender will take effect today, November 13.
The EDSA carousel bus lane is exclusive for public passenger buses, ambulances, and marked government vehicles that are responding to emergencies.
Moreover, the MMDA said that 11,571 bus lanes offenders have been apprehended from January 1 to November 10.
Meanwhile, the stricter penalties stated in MMDA Regulation No. 23-002 are the following:
- First offense: P5,000
- Second offense: P10,000 plus one-month suspension of the driver’s license and the requirement to undergo a road safety seminar.
- Third offense: P20,000 plus one-year suspension of the driver’s license
- Fourth offense: P30,000 plus recommendation to the Land Transportation Office for revocation of the driver’s license
