The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced road closures around the Quirino Grandstand, where the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) is scheduled to hold its "National Rally for Peace" on Monday, January 13.
In a briefing on Friday, MMDA Traffic Operations Officer Manny Miro announced the closure of several roads in the Rizal Park area, including the following:
- Katigbak Drive
- South Drive
- Roxas Boulevard (from U.N. Avenue to P. Burgos)
- TM Kalaw
- Bonifacio Drive (from P. Burgos to Anda Circle)
- Maria Orosa
The MMDA official suggested motorists use alternative routes, such as U.N. Avenue and Quirino Avenue. The agency also advised trucks to take the Quirino Avenue-Lacson-Capulong-R10 route during the road closures.
In addition, some roads around the area will be used as designated parking areas for the event.
MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes stated that street parking will be permitted on the day of the event, but only one lane will be allowed for parking.
Those who violate the said regulation will be issued a ticket. If no driver is present, the vehicle will be towed to prevent obstruction of the roads.
Moreover, approximately 1,300 MMDA personnel will be deployed to manage the event.
The MMDA stated that they are expecting up to 1 million attendees at the religious organization's event.
INC previously announced that it will hold a "rally" in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s call to not push through with the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
