Officials rescued Filipina who went missing in Türkiye

The Philippine Embassy in Türkiye on Tuesday said that the Filipina, who was previously reported missing after the killer earthquake in Türkiye, has been rescued and is now recovering.

In a statement, it said that the Filipina identified as Juliva Benlingan is currently recovering at a hospital in Adana.

"As she recovers well at an Adana hospital, she thanks God for a second chance at life and the Embassy for their well-wishes," the Embassy said.

It said that the members of the Mersin-based Embassy team personally visited Benlingan to check her condition and console her for the trauma she experienced.

They also aid her with financial assistance while a token of appreciation were given to her doctors and nurses.

In a Facebook post, Benlingan's sister Maribel Benlingan-Liyab expressed relief at the good news.

"We proclaim God's greatness today! He is a God of wonders and miracles. We are forever grateful for the 2nd life of our sister, Julz Benlingan," she said.

The Turkish Embassy said the Mersin-based team will continue to "provide the remainder of its relief goods to distressed Filipinos in the affected provinces, including those at temporary church shelters."

Meanwhile, the Embassy also expressed its appreciation for the relief items such as blankets, bonnets, and gloves that were sent by the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD).

According to the latest report from Reuters, the earthquake death toll hit the 40,000 mark.

A total of 35,418 deaths were recorded in Türkiye while 5,800 were in Syria.
