Information on its third installment has been circulating since 2022, with Hathaway teasing on its development last year, stating that they're in “a good place.”
Additionally, Director Adele Lim recently signed to direct the film.
“As a diehard fan of the original ‘Princess Diaries,’ I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim said in a statement.
“We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide,” she added.
Lim is known for her works in films like Joy Ride, Crazy Rich Asians, and Raya and the Last Dragon.
Debra Martin Chase will be producing the film, alongside Hathaway's Somewhere Pictures. Meanwhile, Naia Cucukov will executive produce the film with Melissa Stack.
The crew has not confirmed any plot details as of writing, but it is expected to pick up where the stories of the first two films left off.
