A minor phreatic eruption was observed at Taal Volcano early Wednesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

"A minor phreatic eruption from Taal Volcano Island's Main Crater occurred at 1:59 AM today, 25 September 2024. The event was captured by the thermal camera of the Daang Kastila Observation Station (VTDK)," PHIVOLCS said in a statement.

Locally called "pusngat," the eruption produced a 600-meter-high plume that drifted southwest.

PHIVOLCS noted that Alert Level 1 remains in effect over Taal Volcano.
