Manila police apprehended a minor after shooting a man to death in Tondo on Tuesday night.

Based on the investigation, debt was the main cause of the grudge between the victim and the suspect, who’s considered a child in conflict with the law (CICL).

The victim, identified as Rolando Franciso, was shot at the corner of Dandan St. and Osmea in Barangay 117 in Tondo. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

According to Manila Police District Chief of Homicide Section Police Capt. Dennis Turla, the suspect pawned a watch to the victim and further explained that the CICL was trying to redeem the item.

However, he continued, the victim would not give in, leading to an argument in which Francisco threatened the minor, which is why the CICL attacked him first.

The suspect escaped following the shooting, but police were able to apprehend him in a subsequent operation.

Turla added that, via backtracking and the assistance of local neighbors, they were able to identify the CICL.

Concerned residents provided information on the CICL's location, and their colleagues at the station moved to apprehend him at home.

The cops also confiscated a 9-mm pistol from the suspect.
