Minimum wage earners outside of the National Capital Region (NCR) can look forward to an increase in their salaries within the year, according to the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) regional consultation schedules.
“Sa madaling salita, lahat ng Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards sa loob ng taon na ito ay magkakaroon na ng karampatang action doon sa adjustment ng umiirial na minimum wage levels sa kani-kanilang rehiyon,” DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said.
The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards’ (RTWPB) review of minimum wage rates is in adherence to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive during the 22nd labor day celebration on May 1.
The Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Central Visayas, and SOCCSKSARGEN regions appealed for an adjustment to worker wages in August.
Meanwhile, the RTWPBs in CALABARZON, the Ilocos region, Western Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula are set to have their consultations within the month.
In October, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), MIMAROPA, Bicol region, and Eastern Visayas RTWPBs will follow suit, and so will Northern Mindanao and Caraga this November.
DOLE’s dialogue with stakeholders is necessary in maintaining an understanding of the labor force’s issues and ensures the department delivers its services with efficiency.
It can be recalled that in July, the NCR RTWPB raised wages by ₱35, pulling up the minimum wage from ₱610 to ₱645.
