Mikee Morada, the husband of actress-vlogger Alex Gonzaga-Morada, opened up about going through their third miscarriage in a recent interview with the latter’s sister, Toni Gonzaga-Soriano.
In a YouTube video uploaded on Sunday, January 26, Mikee opened up about his experience going through three pregnancy losses with his wife. He recalled when they first learnt about Alex’s pregnancy, it did not occur to him that miscarriage was possible.
According to him, when his friends announced that they were pregnant, it was smooth sailing from there. Despite going through three losses now, Mikee highlighted that the first loss would always be the most difficult to get through.
During the second time, he mentioned that it was not as heartbreaking as the first one. The second pregnancy, as he called it, was a chemical pregnancy, where his wife’s hormones increased but did not reach a point where a child could form.
Mikee his Wife's Pregnancy
Following the second miscarriage, Toni recalled how her sister detailed a time when Mikee was patient with her. When his wife was going through postpartum depression, Mikee remained at her side and tried to understand what she felt like at the time.
In a span of only a few months, Mikee and Alex experienced the highest and lowest emotions imaginable.
Mikee opened up more, highlighting how he handles going through painful experiences with his wife. Although it may seem like not a lot can hurt or affect his wife, Mikee recalled how he also tries his hardest to be strong for her, offering a shoulder to cry on when things get overwhelming.
The Third Time
After trying for the third time, the couple went for a check-up at the hospital and found out that they were pregnant. The second week came, and Mikee recalled that their ultrasound went well.
“Hanggang doon sa pangatlong linggo, sabi sa amin nung doktor [noong nag] ultrasound, nako, wala nanamang laman, blighted ovum ulit,” he said.
“Talagang bumagsak yung ano namin, pero mas kaya compared doon sa una. Kasi naka ilan na din kami eh. Kaya ang feeling namin, mararamdaman namin yung saya kapag nakarinig na kami ng tibok ng puso o makakita kami ng embryo kasi hindi pa kami umaabot sa punto na may baby na,” he added.
Blighted ovum is a type of early miscarriage where fertilized eggs get implanted into the uterus, but do not develop into an embryo. Although the fertilized eggs would stop developing, the gestational sac would continue to grow.
Mikee recalled seeing his wife blame herself for what happened. According to him, Alex was deeply affected by the loss, recalling how the latter cried before undergoing dilatation and curettage procedure.
Despite this, Mikee expressed his support and admiration for his wife, stating how their relationship grew through the process.
“Gusto ko malaman niya na super thankful ako for trying your [Alex] best to take care of yourself while carrying our third pregnancy or third baby. Hindi man tayo pinalad ngayon, lumalim [naman] ang ating relationship. Alam ko sa susunod mas alam pa natin kung ano ang gagawin. Mas naappreciate pa natin yung isa’t isa, and I love you and [I] will always be there for you,” Mikee said in a message to his wife.
Alex’s Letter
On Monday, January 27, the actress-vlogger uploaded a YouTube video on her channel, starting out with celebrating her birthday with her loved ones. Near the end of the video, she penned a heartfelt letter to her husband.
She began by showing what the week before her birthday looked like, as they spent most of their days in the hospital. After a while, a short message for Mikee flashed on the screen.
“I’m so sorry again for our loss. The little miracle we had will always stay with us. Let’s keep believing. By God’s grace, we will have the family we have always prepared for,” she wrote.
Despite this, Mikee stated that his relationship with his wife grew deeper compared to previous years. The couple officially tied the knot in 2021, a year after they announced their engagement.
As of writing, Toni’s YouTube video remains at the number one spot on its trending list, accumulating a total of 5.1 million views; while Alex’s birthday vlog sits at number eight on the list.
