The Migrant Workers Offices (MWOs) in Taiwan have been placed under alert following the two consecutive strong earthquakes that occurred in the country.
In an advisory, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said magnitudes 6.0 and 6.3 earthquakes rocked the Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 2:26 a.m. and 2:32 a.m. today, April 23.
The agency noted that no overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) suffered injuries based on the initial reports of Filipino communities and leaders in Hualien County.
"MWOs are working closely with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), led by Chairman Silvestre H. Bello III, in reaching out to other Filipino communities, local authorities, employers, and trade associations to ascertain the safety of our OFWs," the DMW advisory read.
To keep Filipinos updated, the DMW said it will issue further bulletins during the day.
On April 3, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake also jolted Taiwan’s Hualien City, marking the strongest quake in 25 years.
The powerful quake has left at least nine Filipinos injured.
