MANILA - Micro rice retailers in Eastern Visayas started receiving cash assistance as mandated by Executive Order No. 39 through the Sustainable Livelihood Assistance (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

In a press statement by the DTI, the simultaneous distribution of cash assistance to qualified micro retailers across Eastern Visayas started on September 11-12, 2023.

DTI confirms that a total of 67 qualified micro rice retailers received Php 15,000 each during the distribution spearheaded by the two departments.

As mandated by EO 39, the DTI is in charge of identifying and verifying the target beneficiaries for the SLP Cash Assistance for Micro Rice Retailers program of DSWD, in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the LGUs’ Business Permits and Licensing Offices (BPLOs).

The DTI is also in charge of making sure the beneficiaries are compliant with the established guidelines in identifying the recipients of the cash assistance.

Under EO 39, the mandated price of regular milled rice is Php 41.00 per kilogram while well-milled rice is priced at Php 45.00 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, DTI Eastern Visayas Region assures the public that they will continue working with the national government in providing assistance to affected micro rice retailers while conducting day-to-day monitoring activities to protect consumers and ensure compliance with the price cap.
