Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Marquez Dee recently revealed that she did not bring any backup gowns when she went to El Salvador for the competition on November 19 (Philippine time), believing in a “quality over quantity” mindset so she could showcase two perfect and iconic pieces on the international stage.

In a televised interview, the beauty queen said that she traveled to El Salvador, bringing two perfect gowns for the preliminary and final coronation nights.

During the preliminary rounds, Dee walked on stage wearing a sparkly green gown while showcasing the tattoo-inspired black gown that wowed Filipino fans during the final night.

The 28-year-old beauty queen mentioned that her evening gowns, which were designed by Mark Bumgarner, honored her mother, Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, and the 106-year-old legendary tattoo artist from Kalinga, Apo Whang Od.

Dee honestly said that she was worried about showcasing the iconic gown if she was not called for the top 10, adding that she was happy to make it.

She ended her Miss Universe 2023 stint with four special awards, including the Best in National Costume award, which brought the Philippines the third most coveted award.
