Davao City-based businessman and former presidential economic adviser Michael Yang on Thursday sought the help of the Supreme Court over the arrest orders filed against him by the Senate.
In a 46-page petition, Yang through his lawyer Raymond Fortun urged the SC to nullify and void the arrest orders issued on September 7 and 10, including the Lookout Bulletin issued by the Bureau of Immigration.
Yang also urged the high court to compel the Senate committee from further requesting him to submit documents and information on all his properties such as cars, real estate, corporations, all tax records, among others.
In the same petition, Yang stated that the Senate Committee on Accountability of Public Officers and Investigations has gravely abused its discretion. He listed the following reasons:
-

He was compelled to answer questions and submit documents that are beyond the scope of the inquiry
Refused to recognize his counsel thus exposing resource persons including him to bullying and badgering
-
He was treated “worse than an accused in a criminal proceeding.
"However, when such power is exercised with such grave abuse and, despite being confronted with the truth, refuses to believe the same, certiorari lies to reverse the effects of such abusive exercise," Yang said.
According to Fortun, the Senate is conducting a 'fishing expedition' in an attempt to discover a 'wrongdoing' from Yang.
