Following the power outage that caused the cancellation of dozens of flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on May 1, 2023, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and Manila Electric Company (Meralco) have initiated an electrical audit of NAIA Terminal 3.
The audit, which began on Friday, is expected to take three weeks to complete, according to MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co.
Once the audit is finished, MIAA will be able to identify the necessary equipment and components needed to enhance the reliability and resilience of Terminal 3's power system.
MIAA will also determine the required budget and timeline for procuring the essential components and generator sets, as well as upgrading the power systems.
“Yes, kailangan naming bumili or mag lease ng additional generators and we are discussing with stakeholders and that’s the time na madetermine kung magkano ang kailangang budget,” he said.
The authority is exploring the possibility of leasing generator sets to improve Terminal 3's backup power capacity.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) noted that the audit would prioritize major components for the system upgrade of its existing electrical facilities, ensuring the reliability of its power supply.
