Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte announced on Thursday, January 25, that teachers would be relieved from doing administrative tasks.

In her presentation of the Basic Education Report 2024 in Pasay City, Duterte said the education department is set to release a department order and corresponding memorandum to formalize the directive.

"We always express our intention to remove administrative tasks from our teachers. After holding several consultations with our field personnel, the department order on the removal of administrative tasks for teachers would be released tomorrow and the corresponding memorandum would be released next week," she said.

To ensure the directive's effective implementation, the Education Secretary bared that 5,000 administrative personnel would be hired this year.

In addition, Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses or MOOE would be provided to schools for the hiring of necessary support staff.

"Let us bring our teachers back to our classrooms," Duterte underscored.

Meanwhile, she assured that teachers would receive strengthened support this year for them to teach better.

The Vice President said they would address the issues affecting teachers' net take-home pay.

"We recognize the burden that comes not only in calamities but those also brought about by medical emergencies. Thus, we will also propose and move for the amendment of an administrative order that will allow us to finally provide health allowance to our teachers and non-teaching personnel," she added.

This is the second time that Duterte presented the Basic Education Report since she sat as the sectretary of the education department.
