The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on Monday, Dec. 11, announced that there would be a slash in the electricity rates for December 2023.
According to RH Edniel Parrosa's report, Meralco said the the overall rate would dip by ₱0.7961 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The eletric company attributed the December lower rates to the lower generation charge and transmission charge.
Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said the generation charge fell by ₱0.60 kWh.
"Itong sa generation, bumababa ng ₱0.66, nadala yung taxes ng almost ₱0.09, transmision ay almost no changes, and others charges ay bumababa rin ng almost ₱0.05 per kWh," he explained in a press briefing.
The new price adjustment means that a typical residential customers consuming 200 kWh to 500 kWh should pay the following:
- 200 kWh - ₱159
- 300 kWh - ₱239
- 400 kWh - ₱318
- 500 kWh - ₱398
