Manila Electric Company (Meralco) customers should reduce their energy use as electricity rates will increase starting this September.

According to the company's notice, billing will increase by 15 centavos per kWh this month.

The additional charge will result in an extra P31 for those consuming an average of 200 kWh per month, P46 for 300 kWh, P62 for 400 kWh, and P77 for 500 kWh.

This increase is reportedly due to higher transmission charges resulting from ancillary services provided by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
