Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced on Tuesday that electricity rates will rise by P0.1048 per kilowatt-hour this December.

The translation of the rate increase in the billing is as follows:

• P21 - 200 kwh
• P31 - 300 kwh
• P42 - 400 kwh

The power distributor stated that the rate adjustment is driven by an increase in generation charges.

Generation charges increased by P0.1839 per kilowatt-hour due to higher costs from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and Power Supply Agreements (PSAs).
