The Manila Electric Co. has apologized for the June 9 power outage at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) caused by ITS subsidiary, MServ employee.

in a statement issued Tuesday, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldirriaga apologized for the inconvenience caused by the power outage last Friday.

He went on to say that their office guarantees the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the traveling public that steps are being taken to prevent the same occurrence from happening again.

Zaldarriaga added that MServ was testing NAIA-3's electrical facilities in the presence of MIAA staff when the temporary power loss occurred last Friday.

He stated that the operation is being carried out by Meralco's wholly-owned subsidiary as part of a comprehensive technical examination aimed at strengthening NAIA-3's electrical infrastructure following the outage that occurred on May 1.

An MServ employee mistakenly left grounding conductors linked to electrical equipment during a testing operation, according to an incident report given to airport officials.

At 12:50 p.m., an electrical fault took place and resulted in the power outage of NAIA-3 facilities on June 9.

The impacted facilities were promptly isolated, according to Zaldarriaga, and electricity was restored at 1:29 p.m. on the same day. The company also sent a crew to support MServ and MIAA.

According to Zaldarriaga, precise recommendations to ensure the smoother conduct of future audit and testing activities at NAIA-3 facilities have been provided as part of the report to airport officials.

These include, among other things, the strict implementation of a toolbox meeting between MIAA, MServ, and Meralco prior to any activity and the conduct of a complete joint inspection of the work area prior to the energization of testing facilities.

Zaldarriaga mentioned that they remain committed to working with the government in its transportation infrastructure development efforts.
