Meggie Ochoa bagged the second gold medal of the Philippines in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Ochoa ruled the women's jiujitsu under 48 kilogram class after besting Balqees Abdulla of the United Arab Emirates. 1-1, in the finals on Thursday, October 5.

The 33-year old Filipina athlete barged into the gold-medal match after emerging victorious against Pechrada Kacie Tan of Thailand and Nazgul Rakhayeva of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial settled for a silver medal in the 19th Asian Games.

Marcial lose via unanimous decision against Chinese bet Tanglatihan Touhetaerbieke, 5-0, in the gold medal match of the men's boxing 80 kilograms class on Thursday.

During the semifinals on Wednesday, October 4, Marcial won against Ahmad Ghousoon of Syria, which not only allowed him to advance to the finals but also guaranteed him a slot in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.

As of Thursday, the Philippines already has two gold medals, two silver medals, and 10 bronze medals in the Asian Games, which will end on Sunday, October 8.

Filipina karateka Sakura Alforte snagged the 10th bronze medal of the Philippines in the 19th Asian Games.

Alforte, who competed in the women's karate individual kata, tallied 41.90 points to beat Hui Hsuan Chien of Chinese Taipei. who registered 41.30 points, for a podium finish.

Asian record holder EJ Obiena won the first gold medal of the Philippines after he dominated the men's pole vault event.
