

A man wanted for illegally possessing firearms and explosives, as well as a female communist rebel, was arrested separately in Sultan Kudarat province on Saturday, according to a police official.
According to Col. Christopher Bermudez, provincial police director, operatives apprehended 67-year-old farmer Jose Hernando at his home in Barangay Saliao, Esperanza town, around 3 a.m. Friday.
Police discovered a hand grenade and an improvised 9-mm pistol. Ammunition for the "Thomgram" machine pistol.
Police also apprehended a certain "Beh" in Barangay Napnapon, Palimbang town, who was listed as the 77th most wanted person at the municipal level.
Bermudez said the 40-year-old woman was a member of the communist New People's Army - South Regional Command, which operates in the province's Daguma ranges.
She is wanted on suspicion of attempted murder. A bail of PHP120,000 was suggested.
Hernando and "Beh" are being held in police detention cells in Esperanza and Kalamansig, respectively.
