The singer and his muse met on the stage!
Over two decades after its release in 2004, Filipino alternative rock band Mayonnaise thrilled audiences with their performance of “Jopay” during "rAWnd 2" of the SexBomb Girls Concert on December 9 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The highlight of the night was when Jopay, the muse behind the iconic song and a member of the SexBomb Girls, performed a stunning dance number that left the audience in awe. She was later joined onstage by her husband, adding an emotional touch to the performance.
Lead vocalist Monty Macalino revealed that he wrote the song after seeing Jopay cry on national television during a Lenten Special of a noontime show. The song reflects the feelings of yearning for someone you admire, wishing to treat them right, and offering them an escape from harsh realities. This heartfelt inspiration led to the creation of the iconic intro: “Jopay, kumusta ka na?”
During the concert, SexBomb also announced plans for "rAWnd 3" of their "Get, Get, Aw" concert series, though details about the date and venue are yet to be revealed.
Formed as the in-house dance group of the long-running noontime show ‘Eat Bulaga’, the SexBomb Girls have released several hit songs, including “Di Ko Na Mapipigilan,” “Sumayaw Sumunod,” “Halukay Ube,” and the viral “The Spageti Song.”
Though the group has not been consistently active in recent years, its influence endures, inspiring a new generation of divas who grew up watching them.
