The effusive eruption of Mayon Volcano has entered its 48th consecutive day, with continuous lava flows and intermittent hazardous events, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported early Sunday.

Time-lapse footage recorded between 11:14 p.m. on February 21 and 12:02 a.m. on February 22 showed active lava outpouring and collapse events at the summit crater. These processes produced incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (locally known as “uson”), and rockfalls along the volcano’s slopes.

“Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 48th consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or “uson”, and rockfalls. Alert Level 3 prevails over Mayon and entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone must be prohibited.,” PHIVOLCS said.

Alert Level 3 indicates an increased tendency toward a hazardous eruption. Authorities warned that sudden explosions, lava flows, pyroclastic density currents, and falling debris pose serious risks to communities near the volcano.

Local government units and disaster response offices have been advised to maintain heightened preparedness, while residents near Mayon are urged to stay vigilant and comply with evacuation and safety directives.

PHIVOLCS continues to closely monitor Mayon for changes in seismic activity, ground deformation, gas emissions, and eruptive behavior.
