The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Sunday reported that the Mayon Volcano in Albay continue to emit lava flows in the last 24 hours.

According to Phivolcs' most recent update, the lava slowly pouring out of Mayon's crater has reached 1.3 kilometers and 1.2 kilometers down the Mi-isi gully in Daraga town and the Bonga gully in Legazpi City, respectively.

The collapse's debris extended as far as 3.3 kilometers from the crater.

The state volcanologists also reported 257 rockfall occurrences, 24 volcanic earthquakes, and 16 pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) which are fast-moving avalanches of volcanic ash, rock, and gases.

The Mayon Volcano has been on Alert Level 3 since June 8, indicating the risk of a severe eruption within weeks or possibly days.

"Heavy rainfall could generate channel-confined lahars and sediment-laden streamflows in channels where PDC deposits were emplaced," Phivolcs noted.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) recorded that almost 20,000 people have relocated to safer places due to Mayon's disturbance.

The majority of the refugees were transferred to the province's 28 evacuation shelters.
