The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has commenced its inspection of passenger vessels in preparation for the holiday season, aiming to ensure the safety and efficiency of sea travel during the peak travel period.
"Everytime na po na mayroon tayong ganitong okasyon, upon the directive po ng ating secretary atsaka administrator, mayroon na po tayong standard operating procedure diyan at lahat ng ating digital offices ay well-informed po kung ano ang gagawin nila," said MARINA Enforcement Service Director Engr. Ronald Bandalaria.
Bandalaria noted that these inspections aim to guarantee that vessels are in good condition to protect passengers from potential risks.
Moreover, the Philippine Coast Guard are in designated areas to assist and guard passengers.
MARINA has also issued a reminder to shipping companies to strictly adhere to passenger limits to avoid overloading, which is a leading cause of maritime accidents.
Despite these measures, MARINA acknowledged the country’s significant shortage of passenger vessels, which often struggle to accommodate the surge of travelers during the holidays.
In light of this, the agency appealed to passengers to plan their trips carefully to avoid inconveniences.
